Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative During Bulb Check

  1. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) connector C1. Turn ignition on. Connect 3-amp fused jumper between EBTCM connector C1 terminal B5 (Purple wire) and ground. If BRAKE indicator comes on, go to step  6 . If BRAKE indicator does not come on, go to next step.
  3. Check for poor connection or open in Purple wire between Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and EBTCM. If circuit is faulty, go to step  5 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check for faulty BRAKE indicator bulb. If BRAKE indicator bulb is faulty, replace bulb. If BRAKE indicator bulb is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair poor connection or open in Purple wire between IPC and EBTCM. After repairs, go to step  7 .
  6. Perform appropriate ABS diagnostic system check. Go to appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES. After repairs, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
