Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative During Abs Malfunction

  1. Perform appropriate ABS diagnostic system check. Go to appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) connector C1. Connect 3-amp fused jumper between EBTCM connector C1 terminal B5 (Purple wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If BRAKE indicator comes on, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not come on, go to step  4 .
  3. Ensure customer has proper knowledge of ABS system operation for particular vehicle. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES. After explanation, go to step  5 .
  4. Repair poor connection or open in Purple wire between IPC and EBTCM. After repairs, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
