Low Fuel Warning Inoperative

  1. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. After repairs, go to next step.
  2. Perform POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE - EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on and attempt to establish communications with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Use scan tool to toggle (WOW) IPC indicators on and off. If LOW FUEL indicator light turns on and off, go to next step. If LOW FUEL indicator light does not turn on and off, go to step  5 .
  4. Use scan tool to monitor LOW FUEL indicator light status. Turn ignition on. If LOW FUEL indicator status is ACTIVE with 1/4 tank or less of fuel and indicator light is off, go to next step. If LOW FUEL indicator status is not ACTIVE with 1/4 tank or less of fuel and indicator light is off, go to POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE - EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  5. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
