Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform DATA LINK CONNECT (DLC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. Go to next step.
  2. If scan tool is set up to communicate with this vehicle, go to next step. If scan tool is not set up to communicate with this vehicle, go to step  28 .
  3. Connect scan tool to known-good vehicle. Perform DATA LINK CONNECT (DLC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article on known-good vehicle. If scan tool communicates with known-good vehicle, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with known-good vehicle, go to step  28 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect splice pack SP205. SP205 is located below instrument panel taped into harness on right side of steering column. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Use DVOM to measure resistance between DLC terminal No. 2 (Purple wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  29 .
  5. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between DLC terminal No. 2 (Purple wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  30 .
  6. Use DVOM to measure resistance between DLC terminal No. 2 and SP 205 terminal "A" (Purple wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  31 .
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect SP205. Use DVOM connected to SP205 terminal "A" (Purple wire), backprobe and measure resistance at SP205 terminals "B" (Dark Green wire), "E" (Light Blue wire), "G" (Gray wire), "L" (White wire) and "M" (Light Green wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms at all terminals, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms at any terminal, go to step  32 .
  8. Disconnect SP205. Disconnect PCM connector C-1. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "B" (Dark Green wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  33 .
  9. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between SP205 connector terminal "B" (Dark Green wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  34 .
  10. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "B" and PCM connector C-1 terminal No. 58 (Dark Green wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  35 .
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) connector C-1. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "E" (Light Blue wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  36 .
  12. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between SP205 connector terminal "E" (Light Blue wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  37 .
  13. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "E" (Light Blue wire) and EBTCM connector C-1 terminal A1 (Delco system) or terminal No. 25 (Bosch system). See Fig 1 . If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  38 .
  14. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "G" (Gray wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  39 .
  15. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between SP205 connector terminal "G" (Gray wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  40 .
  16. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "G" and IPC connector terminal B1 (Gray wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  41 .
  17. If vehicle is not equipped with automatic climate control, go to next step. Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/C-heater control panel connector. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "L" (White wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  42 .
  18. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between SP205 connector terminal "L" (White wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  43 .
  19. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "L" and A/C-heater control panel connector terminal D12 (White wire). If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  44 .
  20. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM connector C-2. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "M" (Light Green wire) and ground. If infinite resistance (OL) is indicated, go to next step. If any resistance is indicated, go to step  45 .
  21. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between SP205 connector terminal "M" (Light Green wire) and ground. If reading is less than 2 volts, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 volts, go to step  46 .
  22. Use DVOM to measure resistance between SP205 connector terminal "M" and BCM connector C-2 terminal B5 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If reading is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  47 .
  23. Turn ignition off. Reconnect PCM connector C-1. Leave all other modules disconnected. Reconnect SP205. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to DLC and attempt to establish communications with PCM. If scan tool can communicate with PCM, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with PCM, see DLC DIAGNOSIS OR NO SCAN TOOL DATA under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE - EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  24. Turn ignition off. Reconnect EBTCM connector. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communications with EBTCM. If scan tool can communicate with EBTCM, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with EBTCM, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  25. Turn ignition off. Reconnect IPC connector. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communications with IPC. If scan tool can communicate with IPC, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with IPC, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  26. If vehicle is not equipped with automatic climate control, go to next step. Reconnect A/C-heater control panel connector. Attempt to establish communications with A/C-heater control panel. If scan tool can communicate with A/C-heater control panel, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with A/C-heater control panel, go to AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS - INTRIGUE article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING.
  27. Turn ignition off. Reconnect BCM connector. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communications with BCM. If scan tool can communicate with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with BCM, go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article.
  28. Scan tool is defective. Refer to scan tool manufacture's reference material. After repairs, go to DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article.
  29. Repair short to ground in Purple wire between DLC and SP205. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  30. Repair short to battery voltage in Purple wire between DLC and SP205. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  31. Repair open or poor connection in Purple wire between DLC and SP205. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  32. Replace splice pack SP205. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  33. Repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between SP205 and PCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  34. Repair short to battery voltage in Dark Green wire between SP205 and PCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  35. Repair open or poor connection in Dark Green wire between SP205 and PCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  36. Repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between SP205 and EBTCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  37. Repair short to battery voltage in Light Blue wire between SP205 and EBTCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  38. Repair open or poor connection in Light Blue wire between SP205 and EBTCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  39. Repair short to ground in Gray wire between SP205 and IPC. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  40. Repair short to battery voltage in Gray wire between SP205 and IPC. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  41. Repair open or poor connection in Gray wire between SP205 and IPC. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  42. Repair short to ground in White wire between SP205 and A/C-heater control panel. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  43. Repair short to battery voltage in White wire between SP205 and A/C-heater control panel. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  44. Repair open or poor connection in White wire between SP205 and A/C-heater control panel. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  45. Repair short to ground in Light Green wire between SP205 and BCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  46. Repair short to battery voltage in Light Green wire between SP205 and BCM. After repairs, go to step  48 .
  47. Repair open or poor connection in Light Green wire between SP205 and BCM. After repairs, go to next step.
  48. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Perform DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article.
