Instrument Cluster Speedometer Malfunctioning

NOTE: If speedometer is not functioning at all, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SPEEDOMETER INOPERATIVE  .
  1. If BFC diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If BFC diagnostic system check was not performed, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Using scan tool, read BFC-to-instrument cluster data. If Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal display is ACTIVE, go to next step. If VSS display is not ACTIVE, diagnose and repair problem in VSS circuit. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Check for a poor connection at instrument cluster Gray, 24-pin connector, terminal A8 (Dark Green/White wire). See Figure . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If connection is okay, go to next step.
  4. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
