Master Cylinder: Reassembly

CAUTION: Do not disturb or remove the screw which retains the primary spring to the secondary piston. This screw has been set to a predetermined height. Performance of master cylinder will be adversely affected if setting is changed. An improperly adjusted screw may result in poor brake performance and personal injury.
  1. All seals should be replaced. Lubricate new seals and seal seats with clean brake fluid before installing. Lubricate new seals with clean brake fluid.
  2. Install lubricated seals and spring retainer onto secondary piston.
  3. Install spring and secondary piston into cylinder bore. Lubricate with clean brake fluid if necessary to ease installation.
  4. Install lubricated primary piston into master cylinder bore.
  5. Depress primary piston and install retainer.
  6. Install proportioning valves. See MASTER CYLINDER PROPORTIONING VALVES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Install the fluid level sensor. Push sensor into master cylinder body until locking tabs snap into place. Connect electrical connector.
  8. Insert the diaphragm into the reservoir cap. Install the cap on the reservoir. See Figure.
  9. Install the master cylinder.
