Front Brake Pads: Installation
- Clean outside surface of caliper piston boot with denatured alcohol. Slowly compress piston into bore with a "C" clamp, being careful not to cock piston to one side or damage piston boot. See FRONT BRAKE CALIPER . Using small plastic or wood tool, lift inner edge of boot next to piston and press out any trapped air. Reposition boot so it lays flat with convolutions in proper position.
- Install the brake pads into the caliper bracket. Install inboard pad (wear indicator will be pointing upward). See Figure . Install outer pad. Ensure boot is not touching inboard pad.
- Apply brakes several times to seat pads. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill brake fluid reservoir. Road test vehicle.
CAUTION:
Service kits include specific right hand and left hand inboard pads. When installing front brake pads, the pads with the wear indicators MUST be installed in the inboard position (against the piston) in the brake caliper. See Figure
. When the proper inboard pad is installed, the wear indicator will point upward with the caliper installed on the car.
