Gauge Cluster (Eighty Eight)

  1. Turn ignition on. Using Tech 1 IPC function, check Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If Tech 1 displays DTC 029, go to step 4). If Tech 1 does not display DTC 029, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect oil pressure sensor/switch connector.
  2. Connect 2 Red wires from Gauge Tester (J 33431) to connector terminals "A" (Tan wire) and "B" (Black/White wire). Turn ignition on. Using Tech 1 data list, select OIL PRESSURE. Set tester resistance dials to zero ohms, then 88 ohms. If Tech 1 shows zero psi at zero ohms, and 80 psi at 88 ohms, check oil pressure sensor/switch connector for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace oil pressure switch.
  3. If Tech 1 does not show zero psi at zero ohms, and 80 psi at 88 ohms, check Tan wire and Black/White wire for a short to ground, open circuit, or high resistance. Check all connectors for good terminal contact. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil pressure sensor/switch connector. Connect jumper wire between oil pressure sensor/switch harness connector terminal "A" (Tan wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator comes on, check Black/White wiring for open circuit or high resistance. Check all connectors for good terminal contact. If all circuits are okay, replace oil pressure sensor/switch. If LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator does not come on, check Tan wire for an open circuit or high resistance. Check all connectors for good terminal contact. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
