Tachometer Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Ignition (EI) module connector. Plug Instrument Panel Tester (J 33431) into a wall outlet. Connect Harness Adaptor (J 33431-10) instrument panel tester. Connect adaptor Black lead to ground and connect Red lead to Electronic Ignition (EI) module connector terminal "E" (White wire). Set instrument panel tester to 54 MPH, 60 Hz. Turn tester on. Turn ignition on.
  2. If DIC tachometer reads about 1350 RPM, check Electronic Ignition (EI) module connector for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace EI module. If DIC tachometer does not read about 1350 RPM, check White wire for an open or short circuit to ground. Also check all regular and in-line connectors for good terminal contact. If circuit is okay, replace IPC.
