Gauge Accuracy Test
- Disconnect Purple and Black or Black/White wires at fuel gauge sender. Connect one lead of Tester(J-33431) to Purple wire and other lead to Black or Black/White wire.
- Turn ignition on. On standard cluster, adjust resistance dial on tester to 11 ohms (one bar lit), 46 ohms (8 bars lit) and 86 ohms (16 bars lit). Allow approximately one minute for fuel gauge to respond.
- If gauge operates correctly, check fuel gauge sender ground. If ground is okay, check for mechanical clearance between fuel gauge sender float and tank interior. If fuel gauge sender ground and wires are okay, replace fuel gauge sender.
- If gauge does not operate correctly, check Purple and Black wires for an open circuit. If wires are okay, replace instrument cluster.
