Gauge Is Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If coolant temperature gauge indicates high coolant temperature with coolant temperature low, go to step 4). If coolant temperature gauge does not indicate high coolant temperature with coolant temperature low, disconnect coolant temperature sender connector.
  2. Using voltmeter, check voltage between coolant temperature sender connector terminal "A" (Dark Green wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, check for poor connections at coolant temperature sender. If connections are okay, replace coolant temperature sender.
  3. If battery voltage is not present, check for poor connections at instrument cluster and splice connections. Also check for open in Dark Green wire. If connections and Dark Green wire are okay, replace instrument cluster.
  4. Disconnect coolant temperature sender connector. If coolant temperature gauge does not indicate low coolant temperature, check for short to ground in Dark Green wire. Also check instrument cluster printed circuit board. If Dark Green wire and printed circuit board are okay, replace instrument cluster. If coolant temperature gauge indicates low coolant temperature, replace coolant temperature sender.
