Fuel Gauge Test

  1. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector, located under luggage compartment in front of fuel tank. With ignition switch in RUN position, connect voltmeter between terminal "C" (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, check and repair Pink/Black wire.
  2. Connect voltmeter between terminals "C" (Pink/Black wire) and "E" (Black/White wire). If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, check and repair Black/White wire.
  3. Connect voltmeter between terminals "C" (Pink/Black wire) and "F" (Purple wire). If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, check Purple wire for open circuit.
  4. With fuel tank sending unit connector unplugged and ignition switch in RUN position, enter BCM self-diagnostics. See TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. Select BCM DATA BD40. Connect a fused jumper wire between fuel tank sending unit terminals "C" (Pink/Black wire) and "F" (Purple wire).
  5. If BCM DATA BD40 displays approximately 25 and fuel gauge indicates a full tank, replace fuel tank sending unit.
  6. If BCM DATA BD40 does not display approximately 25 and fuel gauge does not indicate a full tank, check Purple wire for a short to ground. If wire is okay, replace Body Control Module (BCM).
