Fuel Gauge & Sender Test
- Turn ignition on. Disconnect fuel gauge sender connector near fuel tank. In steps 2), 3) and 4), check for battery voltage using voltmeter at harness side of fuel gauge sender connector.
- Measure voltage between ground and Pink/Black wire terminal. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check for open in Pink/Black wire.
- Measure voltage between Pink/Black and Black/White wire terminals. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check for open in Black/White wire.
- Measure voltage between Pink/Black and Purple wire terminals. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check for open or short to B+ in Purple wire. If Purple wire is okay, go to next step.
- Leave fuel gauge sender connector disconnected. Enter diagnostics and select BCM Data Input BD40. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Connect fused jumper between Pink/Black and Purple wire terminals of fuel gauge sender connector.
- If BCM Data Input BD40 displays approximately 25 and fuel gauge indicates full, replace sender. If BCM Data Input BD40 does not display approximately 25 and fuel gauge does not indicate full, check Purple wire for short to ground. If Purple wire is okay, replace Body Computer Module (BCM).
