Fuel Gauge Test

  1. If fuel gauge does not work, check gauges fuse. If fuse is okay but gauges (voltmeter and oil) do not operate, check ground to circuit and ensure ground connector is clean and tight. If more than one gauge is out, check printed circuit.
  2. If fuel gauge reads incorrectly, disconnect Pink wire from fuel gauge sender. Connect one lead from Tester (J-33431) to Purple wire connector (Pink wire connector on B body). Connect other lead to ground.
  3. With ignition switch turned to "RUN" position, set tester control to zero ohms (or empty). Fuel gauge should indicate empty or below. Set tester control to 90 ohms (or full). Fuel gauge should indicate full or above. If fuel gauge does not respond correctly, replace fuel gauge.
  4. If fuel gauge responds correctly, check connector to sender, wiring and ground connector (at front of fuel tank). If these are okay, replace fuel gauge sender.
