Instrument Panel Trim Covers & Gauge Cluster Mounting Assembly

  1. Remove steering column lower trim plate. Slide steering column collar up and remove filler screws or clips. Remove interfering knobs and carefully pry out left and right dash trim plates and remove.
  2. Depress retaining clip on headlight switch knob and remove knob. Remove left and right sound insulators. Remove ash tray. Disconnect parking brake release cable. Remove lower trim plate. See Fig 1 , Fig 2 and Fig 3 .
  3. Remove gauge cluster cover screws and remove cover. Remove speedometer. See SPEEDOMETER, GAUGES & PRINTED CIRCUITS  . Pull gauge cluster out far enough to disconnect electrical connectors. Remove gauge cluster. Remove instrument panel pad. See Figure . Disconnect shift indicator cable at shift bowl.
  4. Remove 2 steering column bolts and lower steering column. Disconnect electric outside mirror switch (if equipped). Remove headlight switch mounting bracket. Remove screws attaching cruise control module and reminder package (if equipped).
  5. Remove radio mounting plate and screw attaching cluster carrier to radio bracket. Remove 9 screws attaching cluster carrier to instrument panel supports. Pull cluster carrier rearward far enough to disconnect circuit board wiring connector.
  6. Remove 3 screws attaching center air duct to cluster carrier. Remove 3 screws attaching wiring harness to left side of instrument carrier. Disconnect wiring harness retaining clips at right side of instrument carrier. Remove cluster carrier. To install, reverse removal procedure.
