Valve Stem Oil Seals
- Cup type seals are used on all valves. If valve or valve seat has not been damaged, valve springs, seals and retainers may be replaced by holding affected valve against seat using air pressure. Apply a minimum of 140 psi (9.8 kg/cm2 ) line pressure.
- After removing rocker arm, install rocker arm bolt. Insert slotted end of Valve Spring Compressor (J-25892-1) under rocker bolt head. Compress valve spring. Remove valve retainer locks. Remove tool, retainer, spring and oil seal.
- With valve in head, install plastic seal protector cap over end of valve stem. Oil protector cap and start stem seal carefully over cap. Push seal down until seal jacket touches top of valve guide. Remove plastic seal protector cap. Using Valve Seal Installer (J-26251), bottom seal on valve guide.VALVE SEAL IDENTIFICATION
Stem Diameters Intake Seal Color Exhaust Seal Color Standard to .005" Oversize Gray Ivory .010" to .013" Oversize Orange Blue - Friction surfaces of rocker arms and pivots must be coated with lubricant upon reassembly and installed in original locations. See Fig 1. Tighten hardened flanged bolts alternately to prevent breaking pivots.
