Removal & Installation (Crankshaft Installed)
- Drain crankcase. Remove oil pan. Remove rear main bearing cap and old rope seal. Using packing tool, drive old seal into groove in block until packed tight. This may vary from 1/4"-3/4", depending on amount of packing required. Repeat on other end of seal in block.
- Measure amount seal was driven up into cylinder block on one side, add 1/16", then cut this length from old seal removed from rear main bearing cap. Place drop of sealer on each end of seal and cap.
- Using two small screwdrivers, work pieces into block seal groove (one on each side). Trim excess packing flush with block. Form new rope seal in main bearing cap. Install bolts and tighten. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
