Engine Front Cover: Installation
- Clean gasket surfaces of block and front cover with solvent. Grind chamfer on one end of dowel pins. Cut excessive material from end of oil pan gasket on each side of block. See Fig 1. Apply bead of RTV sealer to joint formed at oil pan and cylinder block.
- Coat new front cover gasket with gasket sealer and place in position. Install new cover-to-oil pan gasket (coated lightly with oil) and position cover over crankshaft end. Rotate cover left and right to guide pan seal into cavity using small screwdriver. See Fig 2.
- Loosely install cover-to-block upper retaining bolts. Tighten bolts alternately and evenly while pressing down on cover so dowels in block are aligned with dowel holes in cover.
- Install remaining cover retaining bolts and tighten. Lubricate seal surface and install torsional damper. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
