Camshaft Bearings: Installation
- To aid bearing oil hole alignment with block oil passages, place each bearing in front bore with tapered edge toward block. Align oil hole in bearing with center of oil slot in camshaft bore. Mark bottom of bearing. When installing bearing, mark will act as guide.
- Place new No. 5 bearing on Installer Tool (J-33049) and press in. Using 30" piece of 3/32" brass rod with 90° bend at end, check oil hole opening. See Fig 1. Oil holes must be aligned, or severe engine damage will result.
- Follow same procedure for No. 4, 3 and 2 bearings. Mount No. 1 bearing on installer tool. Press in bearing. Check oil hole positions of No. 1-4 bearings. Wire must enter holes or bearing will not receive lubrication. If removed, coat new camshaft rear plug outside diameter with sealant. Install plug .150-.190" (3.8-4.8 mm) deep. Coat camshaft and related components with Molykote (or equivalent). Install components and complete engine buildup.
