No Coolant Temperature Display, Coolant Temperature Gauge
INCORRECT, OR GAUGE DOES NOT VARY
NOTE:
The "C", "H" and "TEMP" will not be lit if there is an open in the coolant temperature circuit.
- Unplug coolant temperature sensor connector. Sensor is on the top front of engine block. Connect Tester (J-33431-A) to center and outer terminal of the coolant temperature sensor connector. Use Red rheostat leads.
- Set resistance to 1600 ohms. Turn ignition on. Cluster should display a cold engine. With ignition still on, set resistance to 60 ohms. Cluster should gradually change to full hot. "HOT" lamp and "X" should flash on and off.
- If all tests in step 2) are good, replace coolant sensor. If cluster does not respond as outlined, remove left front speaker cover. Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Unplug cluster connector harness. Connect a jumper wire between pins A (Yellow wire) and U (Black wire) of harness connector. Hook up an ohmmeter between temperature sensor connector center and outer terminals. Check for shorts or opens in wiring. If wiring is good, replace cluster.
