Constant -38° Displayed For Outside Ambient Air Temperature
- A constant -38° is displayed when there is an open in the outside air temperature sensor circuit.
- Cluster will display 142°F if there is a temporary power loss to the cluster or when the battery cable is disconnected. Also, 142°F will display if there is an open circuit in outside air temperature sensor circuit and the ignition is turned on.
- Ensure connection at outside air temperature sensor is good. If display still incorrect, disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug outside air temperature sensor. Connect jumper wire between both wires of harness. Remove left front speaker cover.
- Unplug cluster harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check for open between pins B (Green/Black wire) and U (Black wire) of cluster harness connector. Repair wiring if necessary.
- If wiring is good, remove jumper wire from outside air temperature sensor. Connect air temperature sensor to harness. Check resistance between pins B and U of cluster harness connector. Record resistance.
- Using a thermometer, record air temperature outside vehicle next to the sensor. Record temperature. Compare values to specifications. See Temperature Sensor Resistance chart.
- If recorded values agree with specifications, replace cluster. If not, replace outside air temperature sensor.
