Valve Guide Servicing

Guides are integral with cylinder head. If stem-to-guide clearance is excessive, replace valve. Some valves with oversize stems are used in production, and can be identified by marks on inboard side of cylinder head on machined surface just above intake manifold. Valve guide reamers are available in 0.003", 0.005" and 0.013" oversize. When reconditioning, always use next oversize reamer and replacement valve. Service valves are available in standard 0.003", 0.005", 0.010", and 0.013" oversizes.
