Removal and Installation: Removal

- Drain rear differential gear oil. Refer to Draining .
- Remove the rear propeller shaft from the final drive assembly and support the rear propeller shaft with suitable wire. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the vehicle spare tire.
- Remove the rear drive shafts. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove rear stabilizer bar. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove AWD harness bracket.
- Disconnect the harness connector and separate the AWD harness from the final drive bracket.
- Remove the breather from the rear final drive.
- Remove the breather hose from the electric controlled coupling.
- If necessary, remove the breather connector from the rear suspension member.
- If necessary, remove the breather tube from the electric controlled coupling.
- If necessary, remove plugs from the rear suspension member.
- Support rear final drive assembly with a suitable jack.
- Remove rear final drive bolts (
).
- Remove rear final drive nut (
) at rear suspension member, and remove rear final drive from vehicle.
NOTE: If it is necessary to remove the final drive bracket, the fuel tank must be removed first. Refer to Removal and Installation .CAUTION: Secure rear final drive assembly to a suitable jack while removing it.
