Removal and Installation: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Nissan NV3500 HD, 2019 Nissan NV2500 HD, and 2019 Nissan NV1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the differential gear oil. Refer to Changing Differential Gear Oil .
  2. Disconnect the propeller shaft from the rear final drive assembly and support the propeller shaft with suitable wire. Refer to Exploded View 3S1355 (VQ40DE), or Exploded View 3S1415 (VK56VD).
  3. Remove the axle shaft assemblies (RH) and (LH). Refer to Removal and Installation .
  4. Pre-measure the total preload torque using suitable tool (A). Refer to Inspection .

    NOTE: Record the pre-measured total preload torque for installation reference.
  5. Remove the drive pinion lock nut and washer using Tool (A).

    Tool number (A)

    : -- (J-45012)
    CAUTION:
    • Do not use power tool to remove drive pinion lock nut.
    • Do not reuse drive pinion lock nut or washer.
  6. Put matching marks on the companion flange and drive pinion using paint.

    CAUTION: Use paint to make the matching marks. Do not damage the companion flange or drive pinion.
  7. Remove the companion flange using suitable tool.

  8. Remove front oil seal using Tool (A).

    CAUTION: Do not reuse front oil seal.
