Upper And Lower Ball Joint

Swinging Force
NOTE:
Before checking the axial forces and end play, turn the lower ball joint at least 10 revolutions so that the ball joint is properly broken in.
- Measure the ball joint swinging force using Tool.
- Measure at the cotter pin hole for upper ball joint as shown.
- Measure at the groove for lower ball joint as shown.

- Verify the ball joint swinging force is within specification.
(Measurement point at either cotter pin hole or groove of ball stud)
Upper

Lower
: Refer to Ball Joint .
Turning Torque
NOTE:
Before checking the axial forces and end play, turn the lower ball joint at least 10 revolutions so that the ball joint is properly broken in.

COMPONENT PART
Check the front suspension for the following:
- Check each component for looseness or play.
- Inspect each component for abnormal wear or damage.
Ball Joint Axial End Play
WARNING:
When Moving the front tires up and down by hand, place a jack (A) at the rear floor jack lift point to stabilize the vehicle or the vehicle could rock and fall off the lift resulting in serious personal injury or death.
- Set front wheels in a straight-ahead position.
- Check ball joint boot for cracks or other damage. If there are cracks or other damage, replace transverse link.
- Life the vehicle and move the tires ? up and down by hand to check if the ball joint has a backlash. If it has a backlash, replace trans-verse link.NOTE:
- If a rattling noise is generated while travelling, check ball joint axial end play.
- If a rattling noise is generated while travelling, check if the wheel hub assembly bearing has a axial end play. Refer to On-Vehicle Inspection and Service .
