Disassembly and Assembly: Assembly

Journal 

NOTE: To insure proper installation of the snap rings be sure to clean the grooves on the sleeve yoke, slip yoke, flange yoke and propeller shaft yoke.
  1. Position the journal bearings in either side of the yoke.
    CAUTION: Apply multi-purpose grease to journal bearing.
    NOTE: During assembly, be sure the needle bearings do not fall down.
  2. Install the journal (1) into the journal bearings (2).

  3. Press journal until the journal bearings are seated completely, using press and suitable tool (A) and (B).

  4. Install snap rings.

  5. Make sure that the journal moves smoothly and is below the joint flex effort specification. Refer to Propeller Shaft Joint Flex Effort .

  6. If journals do not move freely tap on each yoke (1) using a suitable tool (A) to be sure the journal bearings are against the snap rings.

  7. Install the rear propeller shaft assembly in the vehicle. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Yoke 

NOTE: To insure proper installation of the snap rings be sure to clean the grooves on the sleeve yoke, slip yoke, flange yoke and propeller shaft yoke.
  1. Position the journal bearings in either side of the yoke.
  2. Align the matching marks of the sleeve yoke, slip yoke or flange yoke on the propeller shaft.
  3. Position the sleeve yoke, slip yoke, or flange yoke into the propeller shaft yoke.

  4. Press journal until the journal bearings are seated completely, using press and suitable tool (A) and (B).
  5. Install snap rings.

  6. Make sure that the journal moves smoothly and is below the joint flex effort specification. Refer to Propeller Shaft Joint Flex Effort .

  8. Install the rear propeller shaft assembly in the vehicle. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Center Support Bearing 

  1. Apply a thin coat of multi-purpose grease to both the propeller shaft tube and the inside surface of the center support bearing.
  2. Install the center support bearing on the propeller shaft tube using a suitable tool.

  3. Install a new clamp over the boot on the slip yoke.
  4. Align the matching marks and install the slip yoke on the propeller shaft tube.
  5. Clean the surfaces and position the boot over the propeller shaft tube and tighten the clamp.
  6. Install the propeller shaft assembly in the vehicle. Refer to Removal and Installation .
