Removal and Installation: Measure

WARNING: To avoid the risk of personal injury:
  • Be careful not to burn yourself, as engine oil may be hot.
  • Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer; try to avoid direct skin contact with used engine oil. If skin contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or hand cleaner as soon as possible. Avoid inhalation of vapors, ingestion, and prolonged contact with used engine oil.
  • If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.
  1. Install Tool (A) into the port from which the oil pressure switch (1) was removed and install the oil pressure switch into the other end of the Tool.

  2. Install Tool into Tool (A).

  3. Use CONSULT to monitor the value of the oil pressure switch with the keyswitch in the ON position and the engine OFF. The status of the oil pressure switch should indicate OFF, pressure not detected, or 0 kPa (0 psi).
  4. Connect suitable tool (B). Start the engine.
    CAUTION: If the lubricating oil pressure does not develop within 15 seconds, shut down the engine to reduce the possibility of internal damage.
  5. Allow the engine to operate and achieve operating temperature. Check for leaks.
  6. Record the lubricating oil pressure reading at idle.

    Oil Pressure at Low Idle (Minimum)

    : 69 kPa (0.70 kg/cm 2 , 10 psi)
  7. Monitor the value of the pressure switch with the CONSULT while the engine is idling. The status of the oil pressure switch should indicate ON, pressure detected, or a pressure value.
    NOTE: If no pressure is detected while the engine is running, check the engine wiring for continuity. Refer to Wiring Diagram . If continuity in the harness is less than 10 ohms, replace the oil pressure switch.
  8. Remove the Tool (A) and suitable tool (B) from the port and install the oil pressure switch (1).
