Removal and Installation: Installation

  1. Install the oil cooler (2) and hand-tighten the bolts (A) and stud (B).

    CAUTION: Do not reuse the oil cooler gasket (1).
    NOTE:
    • If replacing the oil cooler, be sure to remove all of the shipping plugs from the ports in the new oil cooler.

    : Spacer

  2. Tighten the bolts in the following order.

    Oil cooler bolts

    : 18 N.m (1.8 kg-m, 13 ft-lb)

    : Spacer

  3. Refill the engine oil. Refer to Cummins (5.0L V8D) Engine: Fluids and Lubricants
  4. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to Cummins (5.0L V8D) Engine: Fluids and Lubricants
  5. Operate the engine and check for leaks.
    CAUTION: To avoid possible engine damage:
    • Fill the oil pump with oil.
    • Prime the lubricating oil system after engine repair or rebuild service activities.
    • Confirm oil pressure within 15 seconds of start up, shut down engine immediately if no oil pressure is produced after 15 seconds.
  6. Install the front undercover. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  7. Stop the engine, and check the coolant and lubricating oil levels. Refer to Inspection  and System Inspection .
