Diagnosis Procedure
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Connect CONSULT and check for ENGINE diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTC U12A3-00 being current or past on the CONSULT screen.
Is DTC U12A3-00 detected as current or past?
YES
GO TO 2 .
NO
Refer to Intermittent Incident .
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Using CONSULT, check for ENGINE diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTC U010E being current or past on more than 1 count on the CONSULT screen.
Is DTC U010E-00 detected as current or past?
YES
GO TO 9.
NO
GO TO 3 .
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Using CONSULT, check for ENGINE diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTCs U029D-00, U029E-00, U02A2-00, U1611-00 or U1612-00 being current or past on the CONSULT screen.
Are more than one of the above DTCs current or past?
YES
GO TO 8.
NO
GO TO 4 .
- INSPECT PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR AND HARNESS CONNECTOR PINS
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect particulate matter sensor harness connector C40.
- Inspect the particulate matter sensor connector pins for the following:
- Loose connector
- Corroded pins
- Bent or broken pins
- Pushed back or expanded pins
- Moisture in or on the connector
- Missing or damaged connector seals
- Dirt or debris on or in the connector pins
- Connector shell broken
- Wire insulation damage
- Damaged connector locking tab.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 5 .
NO
- Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- GO TO 13
- CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check voltage between particulate matter sensor connector C40 terminal 4 and terminal 3.

- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check voltage between particulate matter sensor connector C40 terminal 4 and ground.

- An open or high resistance is present on the ground circuit. Repair or replace error-detected parts.

- An open or high resistance is present on the battery supply circuit. Repair or replace error-detected parts.

- CHECK FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR DATA LINK
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the particulate matter sensor harness connector C40.
- Disconnect the data link adapter from the service data link connector harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between particulate matter sensor harness connector C40 terminals 1 and 2.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES
- A malfunction has been detected in the after treatment particulate sensor. Replace particulate matter sensor. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- GO TO 13
NO
GO TO 9
- INSPECT IPDM E/R AND FUSES
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Inspect the IPDM E/R and fuses for the following:
- Blown power supply fuses
- Power supply fuse for cracks, burns, corrosion, or discolorations
- Corrosion
- Loose or expanded pins
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 9
NO
- Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- GO TO 13
- CHECK FOR TERMINATING RESISTANCE
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the data link adapter from the service data link connector harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between Cummins data link connector F190 terminal 1 and terminal 2.

- CHECK FOR TERMINATING RESISTANCE
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the data link adapter from the service data link connector harness connector.
- Disconnect the ECM harness connector E93.
- Disconnect particulate matter sensor harness connector C40.
- Measure the resistance between particulate matter sensor connector C40 terminal 1 and terminal 2.

Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- ERASE DTCS
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Connect all harness connectors.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Using CONSULT, select "ENGINE" and erase DTCs.
- Operate the engine within the "Conditions for Clearing the DTC".
Is U12A3-00 DTC current?
YES
Diagnosis procedure needs to be repeated. Refer to DTC Description .
NO
Repair complete.
