Diagnosis Procedure
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Connect CONSULT and check for ENGINE diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTC P0118-00 being past on the CONSULT screen.
Is applicable DTC detected?
YES
Refer to Intermittent Incident .
NO
GO TO 2 .
- INSPECT COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CONNECTOR PINS
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect coolant temperature sensor connector F127.
- Inspect the harness and sensor connector pins for the following:
- Loose connector
- Corroded pins
- Bent or broken pins
- Pushed back or expanded pins
- Moisture in or on the connector
- Missing or damaged connector seals
- Dirt or debris on or in the connector pins
- Connector shell broken
- Wire insulation damage
- Damaged connector locking tab
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 3 .
NO
Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- CHECK COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE
- Coolant temperature sensor connector F127 remains disconnected.
- Check resistance between the terminals of coolant temperature sensor connector F127.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 4 .
NO
Replace the coolant temperature sensor. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Connect coolant temperature sensor connector F127.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check for DTC P0118-00 being current and P0113 being past on the CONSULT screen after 30 seconds.
Are the applicable DTCs detected?
YES
GO TO 5 .
NO
Refer to Intermittent Incident .
- INSPECT ECM AND CONNECTOR PINS
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect ECM connector F101.
- Inspect the harness and module connector pins for the following:
- Loose connector
- Corroded pins
- Bent or broken pins
- Pushed back or expanded pins
- Moisture in or on the connector
- Missing or damaged connector seals
- Dirt or debris on or in the connector pins
- Connector shell broken
- Wire insulation damage
- Damaged connector locking tab
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 6 .
NO
Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Connect a jumper wire between terminals 170 and 193 of the ECM connector F101.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check for DTC P0117-00 being current and P0118 being past on the CONSULT screen after 30 seconds.
Are the applicable DTCs detected?
YES
GO TO 7 .
NO
Replace the ECM. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- CHECK FOR AN OPEN RETURN CIRCUIT
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Remove the jumper wire between terminals 170 and 193 of the ECM connector F101.
- Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor connector F127.
- Check resistance between ECM connector F101 and coolant temperature sensor connector F127.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 8 .
NO
An open return circuit has been detected in the engine harness. Repair or replace the engine harness.
- CHECK FOR AN OPEN SIGNAL CIRCUIT
Check resistance between ECM connector F101 and engine coolant temperature sensor connector F127.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 9 .
NO
An open signal circuit has been detected in the engine harness. Repair or replace the engine harness.
- CHECK FOR A PIN TO PIN SHORT CIRCUIT
Check resistance between ECM connector F101 and coolant temperature sensor connector F127.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 10 .
NO
A pin to pin short circuit has been detected on the signal circuit in the engine harness. Repair or replace the engine harness.
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Connect all components.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Check for DTC P0118-00 being past on the CONSULT screen after 30 seconds.
Is applicable DTC detected?
YES
Refer to Intermittent Incident .
NO
GO TO 1 .
