Removal and Installation: Removal

- Disconnect the battery or batteries. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
- Drain ATF through drain plug. Refer to Changing .
- Remove bolts (A) then remove rear diagonal cross member [(1) (LH/RH)] (Non-XD Models).
- Remove bolts and nuts (A) from front cross member (1), then remove front cross member.
- Remove transfer case. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Support A/T assembly (1) with a transmission jack (A).CAUTION: When setting transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug.
- Remove rear engine mount cross member (1) and remove engine mount insulator (rear) (2).
- Remove tightening bolts (A) and (B) for adapter case and transmission case.

- Tap adapter case using suitable tool (A).CAUTION: Be careful not to damage rear extension case.
- Remove adapter case (with needle bearing) from transmission case.
- Remove bearing race (1) from output shaft (2).
- Remove the output shaft (1) from A/T assembly by rotating left/right.
- Remove parking gear (1) from output shaft (2).
- Remove seal rings (1) from output shaft.CAUTION: Do not reuse seal rings.
- Remove needle bearing (1) from adapter case.
- Remove parking actuator support (1) from adapter case.
- Remove parking pawl (with return spring) (1) and pawl shaft (2) from adapter case.
- Remove return spring (1) from parking pawl (2).
