TIMING CHAIN : Removal & Installation: Installation
- Make sure the crankshaft key points straight up.
- Install the balancer unit and tighten the bolts in the numerical order as shown:CAUTION:
- When reusing a bolt, check its outer diameter before installation. Follow the Balancer Unit Bolt Outer Diameter procedure.
- Make sure to install bolts in correct location because bolts are different lengths.
Bolts 1 - 5
: 172 mm (6.77 in)
Bolt 6
: 122.5 mm (4.82 in)
- Check tightening angle with Tool (A) or a protractor. Do not make judgment by visual check alone.

: 42 N.m (4.3 kg-m, 31 ft-lb)
Bolt 6
: 36 N.m (3.7 kg-m, 27 ft-lb)
Step 2
Bolts 1-5
: 120 deg. - 125 deg.
Bolt 6
: 90 deg. - 95 deg.
Step 3
Loosen in reverse order
: 0 N.m (0 kg-m, 0 ft-lb)
Step 4
Bolts 1-5
: 42 N.m (4.3 kg-m, 31 ft-lb)
Bolt 6
: 36 N.m (3.7 kg-m, 27 ft-lb)
Step 5
Bolts 1-5
: 120 deg. - 125 deg.
Bolt 6
: 90 deg. - 95 deg.
- Install the crankshaft sprocket (1) and timing chain (2) for the balancer unit.
- Make sure that the crankshaft sprocket (1) is positioned with mating marks (B) on the block and sprocket meeting at the top.
- Install it by lining up mating marks on each sprocket (B), (D) and timing chain (A), (C).

- Install timing chain tensioner and remove suitable tool.
- Check matching mark position of balancer unit drive chain and each sprocket again.
- If removed, install camshaft sprockets.
- Install the timing chain using the following procedure:
- Align the matching marks of each sprocket with the matching marks of timing chain.

CAUTION: Check matching mark position of each sprocket and timing chain again after installing the timing chain.NOTE: If these matching marks are not aligned, rotate the camshaft slightly by holding the hexagonal portion to correct the position. - Install the tension guide (3) and slack guide (2).

: Timing chain
- Install the timing chain tensioner and remove suitable tool.CAUTION: Do not remove suitable tool from timing chain tensioner when removed from vehicle. If timing chain tensioner plunger becomes fully extended, replace timing chain tensioner.
- Check matching mark position of timing chain and each sprocket again.
- Align the matching marks of each sprocket with the matching marks of timing chain.
- Install the rocker cover using the following procedure:
- Apply liquid gasket (B) to the positions (A) shown.

- Use Genuine Silicone RTV Sealant or equivalent. Refer to HOW TO USE THIS INFORMATION : Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants .
- Install rocker cover gasket to rocker cover.CAUTION: Do not reuse rocker cover gasket.
- Install the rocker cover and tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown.
Step 1
: 1.96 N.m (0.20 kg-m, 17 in-lb)
Step 2
: 8.33 N.m (0.85 kg-m, 74 in-lb)
- Apply liquid gasket (B) to the positions (A) shown.
- Install the EGR volume control valve and EGR outlet tube using the following procedure:CAUTION: Do not reuse EGR outlet tube gasket and EGR volume control valve gasket.
- Hand tighten the EGR outlet tube nuts at the EGR volume control valve.
- Tighten the EGR outlet tube bolts at the intake manifold to the specified torque.

: 25.0 N.m (2.6 kg-m, 18 ft-lb)
- Tighten the EGR outlet tube nuts at the EGR volume control valve to the specified torque.

: 25.0 N.m (2.6 kg-m, 18 ft-lb)
- Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.
- Perform "ELECTRIC IVT CONTROL ACTUATOR POSITION LEARNING". Refer to Description .
- Perform the "Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning" when harness connector of electric throttle control actuator is disconnected. Refer to Description .
