FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL TUBE : Removal & Installation: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Release fuel pressure. Refer to Work Procedure .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the fuel rail protector and fuel rail insulator.
  4. Remove the high pressure fuel tube.
    CAUTION: Do not reuse high pressure fuel tube.
  5. Disconnect the harness connector from the fuel rail pressure sensor.
  6. Disconnect the harness connectors from the fuel injectors.
  7. Remove the fuel rail pressure sensor (if necessary).
    CAUTION: Do not reuse fuel rail pressure sensor gasket.
  8. Remove the fuel rail nuts and bolts in the reverse of the sequence shown.

    CAUTION:
    • When removing, be careful to avoid any interference with fuel injectors.
    • Use a shop cloth to absorb any fuel that leaks from high pressure fuel rail during removal.
  9. Remove the high pressure fuel rail.
    CAUTION: Use a shop cloth to absorb any fuel that leaks from high pressure fuel rail during removal.
  10. Remove fuel injector from cylinder head using the following procedure:
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage injector nozzles during removal.
    • Do not bump or drop fuel injector.
    • Do not disassemble fuel injector.
    1. Spray a suitable lubricant around the fuel injector bore (A).

    2. Rotate fuel injector (1) back and forth to allow suitable lubricant to seep into bore.
    3. Pull straight out on fuel injector to remove from cylinder head.
  11. Remove O-ring, backup ring and injector holder from direct fuel injector.
    CAUTION: Do not reuse O-ring, backup ring or injector holder.
  12. Cut seal ring (1) while pinching it.

    CAUTION:
    • Do not scratch direct fuel injector when removing seal ring.
    • Do not reuse seal ring.
  13. Remove the high pressure fuel rail studs from the cylinder head (if necessary).
