FRONT COVER : Removal and Installation: Installation

  1. Install new front oil seal to front cover. Refer to FRONT OIL SEAL : Removal & Installation .
  2. Install front cover with the following procedure:
    1. Install tension guide (upper) to front cover.
    2. If removed, install the camshaft sprocket (INT) oil seal.
      CAUTION: Do not reuse camshaft sprocket (INT) oil seal if removed from front cover.
      • Insert camshaft sprocket (INT) oil seal (2) into the front cover (1) to the specified depth (A) using suitable tool.

        (A)

        : 1.9 - 2.7 mm (0.075 - 0.106 in)
      • Measure the depth of the camshaft sprocket (INT) oil seal (2) at positions (B) and (D). The difference should not exceed 0.5 deg.. Repeat measurements at positions (C) and (E).
    3. Install new O-rings and filter.
      CAUTION: Do not reuse O-rings or filter.
    4. Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket (E) with a suitable tool to front cover (2) as shown.

      : 4.0 - 5.6 mm (0.16 - 0.22 in)

      (B)

      : 2.7 - 3.7 mm (0.11 - 0.15 in)

      (C)

      : Cylinder head and cylinder block mating surface

      (D)

      : 6.0 - 7.0 mm (0.24 - 0.28 in)

      (E)

      Ladder frame

      (F)

      Ladder frame mating surface

      Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to HOW TO USE THIS INFORMATION : Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants .

      CAUTION:
      • After tightening front cover, remove liquid gasket that protrudes at location (SYMBOL ) shown.
      • Installation should be done within 5 minutes after application of liquid gasket.
      • Do not fill the engine with oil for at least 30 minutes after the components are installed to allow the liquid gasket to cure.
    5. Make sure the mating marks on the timing chain and each sprocket are still aligned. Then install the front cover.
      CAUTION: Do not damage the front oil seal or camshaft sprocket (INT) oil seal during installation.
    6. Tighten the front cover bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown.

      Front cover bolts

      No. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13

      : 49 N.m (5.0 kg-m, 36 ft-lb)

      Except No. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13

      : 12.8 N.m (1.3 kg-m, 9 ft-lb)

      (A)

      : Dowel pin
  3. Install crankshaft pulley using the following procedure:
    1. When inserting crankshaft pulley with a suitable tool, tap on its center portion (not circumference).
      CAUTION: Do not damage front oil seal lip portion.
    2. Secure crankshaft pulley (1) with a suitable tool (A).

    3. Apply new engine oil to thread and seat surfaces of crankshaft pulley bolt.
    4. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque.

      Crankshaft bolt

      : 42.1 N.m (4.3 kg-m, 31 ft-lb)
    5. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified angle using Tool.
      CAUTION: Check and confirm the tightening angle using Tool. Avoid judgment by visual inspection without Tool.

      Tool

      : KV10112100 (BT-8653-A)

      Tightening angle

      : 90 deg. - 96 deg.
    6. Check that crankshaft rotates clockwise smoothly.
  4. Install the electric intake valve timing control actuator and tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown.

    : 7.0 N.m (0.71 kg-m, 62 in-lb)
  5. Install oil pan (upper) using the following procedure:
    1. Use a suitable tool (A) to remove old liquid gasket from mating surfaces.

      • Remove the old liquid gasket from mating surface of cylinder block.
      • Remove old liquid gasket from the bolt holes and threads.
      CAUTION: Do not scratch or damage the mating surfaces when cleaning off old liquid gasket.
    2. Apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket (C) with a suitable tool as shown.

      : Oil pan (upper)

      (B)

      : 5.5 -- 7.5 mm (0.22 -- 0.30 in)

      (D)

      : 3.4 -- 4.4 mm (0.13 -- 0.17 in)

      SYMBOL

      : Engine outside

      Use Genuine Silicone RTV Sealant or equivalent. Refer to HOW TO USE THIS INFORMATION : Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants .

      CAUTION:
      • Apply liquid gasket to outside of bolt hole for the positions shown by " SYMBOL " marks.
      • Attaching should be done within 5 minutes after liquid gasket application.
      • Do not re-tighten bolts after the 5 minutes have elapsed.
      • Then allow 30 minutes for the liquid gasket to set before adding oil to the engine.
    3. Install new O-rings at oil pan (upper) side.
      CAUTION:
      • Install avoiding misalignment of O-ring.
      • Do not reuse O-ring.
    4. Tighten oil pan (upper) bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown.

      CAUTION: Remove any liquid gasket that protrudes onto the front cover or rear oil seal sealing surface.

      Oil pan (upper) bolts

      No. 18, 19

      : 8.8 N.m (0.90 kg-m, 78 in-lb)

      Except No. 18, 19

      : 21.6 N.m (2.2 kg-m, 16 ft-lb)
  6. Install the rear cover plate. Refer to OIL PAN (LOWER) : Exploded View .
  7. Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.
    • Perform "ELECTRIC IVT CONTROL ACTUATOR POSITION LEARNING". Refer to Description .
    • Perform the "Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning" when harness connector of electric throttle control actuator is disconnected. Refer to Description .
