REAR PROPELLER SHAFT : Removal & Installation: Removal
- With ignition OFF, shift transmission to neutral.
- Remove front exhaust tube. Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove muffler assembly. Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove nuts (A) and bolts (B), then remove heat shield (1).
- Put matching marks onto propeller shaft flange yoke and electric controlled coupling assembly.CAUTION: Use paint or an equivalent for matching marks. Do not scratch surfaces.
- Put matching marks onto transfer companion flanges.CAUTION: Use paint or an equivalent for matching marks. Do not scratch surfaces.
- Remove propeller shaft nuts from electric controlled coupling assembly.CAUTION: Do not reuse nuts.
- Remove propeller shaft bolts from companion flange at transfer case.CAUTION: Do not reuse bolts.
- While supporting rear propeller shaft halves, remove center bearing mounting bracket nuts.CAUTION: Do not reuse nuts.
- Remove propeller shaft assembly.CAUTION:
- If constant velocity joint was bent during propeller shaft assembly removal, installation, or transportation, its boot may be damaged. Wrap boot with shop cloth or rubber to protect boot from damage.
- This procedure requires 2 workers. Constant velocity joint must be handled with care.
- Perform inspection after removal. Refer to REAR PROPELLER SHAFT : Inspection .
