Rear Differential Installation

- Place the rear differential on a transmission jack.
- Install a new set ring (A) into the groove (B) of the rear differential left side.
- If the original differential is being reinstalled, replace the set rings.
- Raise the rear differential to the appropriate position on the transmission jack.
- Connect the ground cable (A) to the rear differential.
- Connect the left solenoid 4P connector (B), then install the harness clips (C).
- Raise the rear differential a little on the transmission jack.
- Connect the breather hose (A) to the breather pipe (B).
- Connect the right solenoid 4P connector (C) and the rear differential fluid temperature sensor 2P connector (D), then install the harness clips (E).
- Raise the rear differential to the mounting level.
- Apply appropriate grease to the left rear driveshaft inboard joint (see step 1 under REAR DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION ).
- Insert the left rear driveshaft inboard joint (A) into the rear differential.
- Temporarily install the rear differential front mounting bracket bolts (B).
- Loosen the rear differential front mounting bolts (C).
- Install the new rear differential rear mounting bolts (D and E) and tighten them to the specified torque in the sequence shown.
- Replace the rear differential front mounting bolts, and tighten them to the specified torque.
- Tighten the rear differential front mounting bracket bolts to the specified torque.
- Attach the propeller shaft (A) to the rear differential (B) by aligning the reference mark (C) you made during the removal procedure.
- Install the right rear driveshaft (see REAR DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION ).
- Install a new gasket (A) and the muffler (B) with new nuts (C).
- Install the rear wheels.
- Install the spare tire.
- Refill the rear differential with the recommended fluid (see REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT ).
- Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary (see WHEEL ALIGNMENT ).
- Test-drive the vehicle.
