Rear Driveshaft Removal

Special Tools Required 

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the brake hose, sensor, and harness.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
  2. Remove the rear wheel.
  3. Pry up the stake (A) on the spindle nut (B), then remove the nut.

  4. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor (A) and the wheel speed sensor harness clip (B).

  5. With active damper system/With headlight leveling system left side: Remove the suspension stroke sensor (see SUSPENSION STROKE SENSOR REPLACEMENT ).
  6. Remove the lock pin (A) from the upper arm ball joint, then remove the castle nut (B). Separate the knuckle from the upper arm (C) using the 12 mm ball joint thread protector (D) and the 28 mm ball joint remover (E) (see BALL JOINT REMOVAL ).
    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover.
    • Do not force or hammer on the upper arm, or pry between the upper arm and the knuckle. You could damage the ball joint.

  7. Remove the self-locking nut (B), the washer (C), and the flange bolt (D), then remove lower arm A.

  8. Place a transmission jack under lower arm B, and remove the flange bolt (A).

  9. Separate the rear driveshaft outboard joint from the rear hub using a soft face hammer.

  10. Pull the knuckle (A) outward, then separate the rear driveshaft outboard joint (B).
    NOTE: When removing the outboard joint, continue supporting both the knuckle and lower arm with the transmission jack. Make sure not to over extend the brake hose.

  11. Use a hammer to wedge the driveshaft remover (A) between the inboard joint (B) and the rear differential (C).

  12. Remove the rear driveshaft (A), then remove the set ring (B).
