DTC 86-1x, 86-2x: ("X" Can Be 0 Thru 9 Or A Thru F) Faulty OPDS Seat-Back Sensor; ("X" Can Be 0 Thru 9 Or A Thru F) Faulty OPDS Seat Support Sensor

NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed. (See COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES and, General Troubleshooting Information (see DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES) ).
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software (see SRS UNIT UPDATE ), and retest.
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see CLEAR THE DTC MEMORY ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
- Check for the DTCs with the HDS (see READING THE DTC
).
Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Replace the OPDS sensor/front passenger's seat-back cover/pad (see FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER/PAD REPLACEMENT ).
- Check the connection at the ODS unit wire harness 18P connector (A) and sensor connectors (B).
Are the connections OK?
YES - Go to step 7
NO - Repair the poor connection, and clear the DTC and retest.

- Replace the seat-back cover/pad which equipped OPDS sensor (see FRONT SEAT-BACK COVER/PAD REPLACEMENT ), then clear the DTC.
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see CLEAR THE DTC MEMORY ).
- Do the ODS unit initialization (see ODS UNIT INITIALIZATION ).
- Check for the DTCs with the HDS (see READING THE DTC
).
Is DTC 86-1 x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Replace the ODS unit (see ODS UNIT REPLACEMENT ), then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit (see SRS UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
NO - The system is OK.
