DTC 8-5: F-CAN Malfunction (Active Damper Control Unit Lost Communication With Yaw Rate-Lateral/Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Acura MDX, 2012 Acura MDX, 2011 Acura MDX, and 2010 Acura MDX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the active damper system DTC and VSA system DTC with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Start the engine, and wait 5 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 8-5 indicated?
YES -Go to step 6.
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting (see INTERMITTENT FAILURES ).
- Check for VSA system DTCs with the HDS (see
GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION
).
Are any DTC indicated?
YES -Go to the indicated VSA system DTC's troubleshooting.
NO -Go to step 7.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Wait 30 seconds or more.
- Disconnect the yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector (see YAW RATE-LATERAL/LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION SENSOR REPLACEMENT ).
- Disconnect active damper control unit connector B (14P) connector (see ACTIVE DAMPER CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
- Check for continuity between the active damper control unit connector B (14P) terminals and the yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor 4P connector terminals individually (see table).

Is there continuity?
YES -Go to step 12.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between the yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor and the active damper control unit.
- Substitute a known-good active damper control unit (see ACTIVE DAMPER CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Start the engine, and wait 5 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 8-5 indicated?
YES -Replace the yaw rate-lateral/longitudinal acceleration sensor (see YAW RATE-LATERAL/LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION SENSOR REPLACEMENT ).
NO -Replace the original active damper control unit (see ACTIVE DAMPER CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
