How to Use the HDS (Honda Diagnostic System)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Acura MDX, 2012 Acura MDX, 2011 Acura MDX, and 2010 Acura MDX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Make sure the battery is in good condition and fully charged.
  1. If the system indicators stay on, connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the VSA modulator-control unit. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).
  4. Check the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and the freeze data, and note them. Then refer to the indicated DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING , and do the appropriate troubleshooting procedure.
    NOTE:
    • Freeze data indicates the VSA conditions when the first system malfunction that activated the indicator was detected.
    • The HDS can read the DTC, the current data, and other system data.
    • For specific operations, refer to the Help menu that came with the HDS.
