DTC 42: VSA Brake Actuator Malfunction

  1. Check if the VSA modulator-control unit has ever been replaced.

    Has it been replaced? 

    YES  -Go to step 2.

    NO  -Go to step  3.

  2. Check the part number of the VSA modulator-control unit, and make sure that it is the correct part, and it was installed properly.

    Are the correct parts installed? 

    YES  -Go to step 3.

    NO  -Faulty VSA modulator-control unit; replace the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).

  3. Update the VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT UPDATE ) and the ACC unit (see ACC UNIT UPDATE  ), if they do not have the latest software.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  5. Press the MAIN switch ON.
  6. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).

    Is DTC 42 indicated? 

    YES  -Go to step 7.

    NO  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

  7. Check for VSA system DTCs with the HDS (see PUMP MOTOR ).

    Are any DTCs indicated? 

    YES  -Troubleshoot the indicated VSA system DTC(s).

    NO  -Check for loose or poor connections. If OK, update the ACC unit (see ACC UNIT UPDATE  ).
