Master Cylinder: Installation

NOTE: Refill with NEW brake fluid "DOT 3". Never reuse drained brake fluid.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Check pedal height. See BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT  and BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY  under ADJUSTMENTS.

  1. Place master cylinder onto brake booster and tighten mounting nuts by hand. Tighten the master cylinder mounting nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Fill the reservoir tank with new brake fluid. Plug all ports on master cylinder with fingers to prevent air suction while releasing brake pedal.
  3. Have driver depress brake pedal slowly several times until no air comes out of master cylinder. Install the brake lines to master cylinder. Tighten flare nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  . Check pedal height. See BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT  and BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY  under ADJUSTMENTS.
