NOTE: Before disconnecting negative battery cable, if the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illuminates, record any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for the engine management system. Whenever possible, repair any DTCS before disconnecting negative battery cable.
  1. To disable air bag system, make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio installed. Turn ignition switch to OFF position (0) and wait at least 5 minutes before disconnecting negative battery cable. This allows sufficient time for information to be stored in the control modules. Disconnect negative battery cable and WAIT at least 10 SECONDS before starting work. DO NOT disconnect positive battery cable in the engine compartment.
    2. NOTE: If vehicle is equipped with a heater with remote starting, the personal code is reset to the factory default (1234) if the battery is disconnected or the power is cut to the heater.
  2. To activate air bag system, ensure nobody is in the vehicle when battery is connected. This is a safety precaution in case an air bag module activates when the power is connected. When all components have been reinstalled, turn ignition switch to ON position (II). Connect negative battery cable. Perform system operation check to ensure proper system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
  3. After reconnecting negative battery cable the Upper Electronic Module (UEM) must be initialized. Initialize the central locking, interior lighting and sun roof by unlocking vehicle using a remote control, ignition key or VADIS vehicle communication. If vehicle is equipped with Manual Climate Control (MCC) or Standard Climate Control (SCC), the blower fan speed must recalibrated if the battery has been disconnected.
  4. Turn ignition to ON position. Turn blower fan switch to maximum and then turn blower fan switch to minimum. The calibration is complete. To calibrate sun roof, close sun roof and operate sun roof switch so that sun roof is in tilt position. Release switch and press the button again for at least 5 seconds. Release the switch and the calibration is complete. To calibrate the engine control module after battery has been disconnected and reconnected, may require driving vehicle for a few minutes before engine runs normally.
