Diagnostic Procedure

  1. INSPECTION START 

    Do you have CONSULT-II?

    Yes or No 

    1. Yes: GO TO 2.
    2. No: GO TO  6.
  2. CHECK INPUT SIGNAL OF A/T FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR (WITH CONSULT-II) 

    With CONSULT-II 

    1. Start engine.
    2. Select "TCM INPUT SIGNALS" in "DATA MONITOR" mode for "A/T" with CONSULT-II.
    3. Read out the value of "FLUID TEMP SE".

      Voltage: Cold [20°C (68°F)] -> Hot [80°C (176°F)]: 

      Approximately 1.5V -> 0.5V

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO  4.
    2. NG: GO TO 3.
  3. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM 

    Check the following items: 

    • Harness for short to ground or short to power or open between TCM, ECM and terminal cord assembly (Main harness)
    • Ground circuit for ECM.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 4.
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
  4. CHECK A/T FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR WITH TERMINAL CORD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position.
    2. Disconnect terminal cord assembly connector on the right side of transfer assembly.
    3. Check resistance between terminals 8 and 9 when A/T is cold [20°C (68°F)].

    Is resistance approx. 2.5 kΩ? 

    1. Yes: GO TO  7.
    2. No: GO TO 5.
  5. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM 
    1. Remove oil pan.
    2. Check the following items:
      • A/T fluid temperature sensor

        Refer to "Component Inspection ".

      • Harness of terminal cord assembly for short or open

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO  7.
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
  6. CHECK INPUT SIGNAL OF A/T FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR (WITHOUT CONSULT-II) 

    Without CONSULT-II 

    1. Start engine.
    2. Check voltage between TCM harness connector M120 terminal 47 and ground while warming up A/T.

      Voltage: 

      Cold [20°C (68°F)] -> Hot [80°C (176°F)]: 

      Approximately 1.5V -> 0.5V

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO  11.
    2. NG: GO TO  3.
  7. CHECK TCM POWER SOURCE STEP 1 
    1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.

      (Do not start engine.)

    2. Check voltage between TCM harness connector M119, M120 terminals 10, 19, 28 and ground.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 8.
    2. NG: GO TO  9.
  8. CHECK TCM POWER SOURCE STEP 2 
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
    2. Check voltage between TCM harness connector M120 terminal 28 and ground.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO  10.
    2. NG: GO TO 9.
  9. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM 

    Check the following items:

    • Harness for short or open between ignition switch and TCM terminals 10, 19 and 28 (Main harness)
    • Ignition switch and 10A or 7.5A fuse [No. 18 or 24, located in the fuse block (J/B)]

      Refer to "POWER SUPPLY ROUTING ".

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 10.
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
  10. CHECK TCM GROUND CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
    2. Disconnect TCM harness connector.
    3. Check continuity between TCM terminals 25, 48 and ground. Refer to WIRING DIAGRAM - AT - MAIN .

      Continuity should exist. 

      If OK, check harness for short to ground and short to power.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: GO TO 11.
    2. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  11. CHECK DTC 

    Perform DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE , .

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: INSPECTION END 
    2. NG: GO TO 12.
  12. CHECK TCM INSPECTION 
    1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
    2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.

    OK or NG 

    1. OK: INSPECTION END 
    2. NG: Repair or replace damaged parts.
