Cylinder Head: Assembly

  1. Install spark plug tube.
    • Press-fit spark plug tube following procedure below.
      1. Remove old liquid gasket adhering to cylinder-head mounting hole.
      2. Apply liquid gasket to area within approximately 12 mm (0.47 in) from edge of spark plug tube press-fit side.
        NOTE: Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS .
      3. Using a drift, press-fit spark plug tube so that its height "H" is as specified in the figure.

        Standard press-fit height "H": 

        38.55 - 38.65 mm (1.5177 - 1.5217 in)

        CAUTION:
        • When press-fitting, take care not to deform spark plug tube.
        • After press-fitting, wipe off liquid gasket protruding onto cylinder-head upper face.
  2. Install valve component parts.
    • Always use new valve oil seal. Refer to  VALVE OIL SEAL  . 
    • Before installing valve oil seal, install valve spring seat. 
    • Install valve spring (uneven pitch type) with its narrow pitch side toward cylinder head side (paint mark). 
    • After installing valve component parts, tap valve stem tip with plastic hammer to assure a proper fit.
  3. Install spark plug.
