Symptom 2:

Ignition key cannot be removed when selector lever is set to P position. It can be removed when selector lever is set to any position except P.
- CHECK KEY INTERLOCK CABLE
Check key interlock cable for damage.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 2.
- NG: Repair key interlock cable. Refer to COMPONENTS .
- CHECK SELECTOR LEVER POSITION
Check selector lever position for damage.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 3.
- NG: Check selector lever. Refer to CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT .
- CHECK POWER SOURCE
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
(Do not start engine.)
- Check voltage between stop lamp switch harness terminal + and ground.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 4.
- NG: Check the following items:
- Harness for short or open between battery and stop lamp switch harness terminal +
- 10A fuse No. 2 [located in the fuse block (J/B)]
- Ignition switch Refer to POWER DISTRIBUTION .
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- CHECK INPUT SIGNAL (A/T DEVICE)
Turn ignition switch to ON position.
(Do not start engine.)
- Check voltage between A/T device harness terminal 7 and ground.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 5.
- NG: Check the following items:
- Harness for short and open between battery and stop lamp switch harness connector terminal +.
- Harness for short or open between stop lamp switch harness connector terminal - and A/T device harness connector terminal 7.
- Fuse
- Stop lamp switch Refer to STOP LAMP SWITCH .
- CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Disconnect A/T device harness connector.
- Check continuity between A/T device harness terminal 6 and ground.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 6.
- NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
- CHECK RELAY CIRCUIT
- Turn ignition switch to ON.
- Check voltage between terminals 7 - 6 and 5 - 6.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 7.
- NG: Replace A/T device.
- CHECK PARK POSITION SWITCH
Refer to Figure.
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 8.
- NG: Replace A/T device.
- CHECK SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID
Refer to 1. SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID .
OK or NG
- OK: GO TO 9.
- NG: Replace A/T device.
- SHIFT LOCK OPERATION
- Reconnect shift lock harness connector.
- Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position. (Do not start engine.)
- Recheck shift lock operation.
OK or NG
- OK: INSPECTION END
- NG:
- Perform A/T device input/output signal inspection test.
- If NG, recheck harness connector connection.
