before working on air bag system or related components.
The purpose of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), or air bag system, is to work in conjunction with seat belts to reduce the risk of serious injury to front seat passengers, during certain frontal or side collisions.
The main components of the air bag system are the driver-side air bag module, passenger-side air bag module, right and left front seat air bag modules (side air bag modules), diagnosis sensor unit (diagnosis control unit), right and left satellite sensors, right and left front seat belt pretensioners, AIR BAG warning light, wiring harness and spiral cable. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . The diagnosis sensor unit monitors air bag system operation and records fault messages when a system malfunction is detected.
