Diagnostic Procedure (3.3L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Xterra and 2002 Nissan Frontier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IACV-AAC valve harness connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step  3 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Check the following:
    • Check fuse No. 15 (10-amp) located in fuse block under left side of instrument panel.
    • Check for poor connection at fuse block connector M27 terminal 2N (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure .
    • Check for poor connection at White, 24-pin connector M81 terminal No. 14 (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure . Connector M81 is located behind right side of instrument panel. See Figure or Figure .
    • Check for poor connection at 8-pin connector F37 terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure . Connector F37 is located on right side of engine compartment. See Figure or Figure .
    • Check for open or short between IACV-AAC valve and fuse.

    Repair as necessary.

  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure or Figure . Check continuity of Orange/Blue wire between IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 101. See Figure . Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step  5 .
  4. Check the following:
    • Check for poor connection at 8-pin connector F37 terminal No. 3 (Orange/Blue wire). See Figure . Connector F37 is located on right side of engine compartment. See Figure or Figure .
    • Check for open or short between IACV-AAC valve and ECM.

    Repair as necessary.

  5. Measure resistance between IACV-AAC valve terminals. Resistance should be about 10 ohms at 77°F (25°C). Check plunger for seizing or sticking. Check for broken spring. If problem is found, replace IACV-AAC valve. If problem is not found, go to next step.
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
