Diagnostic Procedure (3.3L)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Xterra and 2002 Nissan Frontier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts. See Figure . Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. See Fig 1 . Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure or Figure . Check continuity of Blue wire between CKP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 47. See Figure . Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 3 .
- Check the following:
- Check for poor connection at Gray, 8-pin connector F38 terminal No. 3 (Blue wire). See Figure . Connector F38 is located on right side of engine compartment. See Figure or Figure .
- Check for open or short between CKP sensor and ECM.
Repair as necessary.
- Reconnect ECM harness connector. Check continuity between engine ground and CKP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 5 .
- Check the following:
- Check for poor connection at Gray, 8-pin connector F38 terminal No. 7 (Black/White wire). See Figure . Connector F38 is located on right side of engine compartment. See Figure or Figure .
- Check Gray, 6-pin joint connector No. 4 (connector F34). Continuity should exist between all terminals. Connector F34 is located near ECM. See Figure or Figure .
- Check for open or short between CKP sensor and ECM.
Repair as necessary.
- Remove CKP sensor. Visually inspect sensor for chipping. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. Resistance should be about 512-632 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Replace sensor if it is chipped or if resistance is not as specified. If sensor is okay, go to next step.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
