Diagnostic Procedure (M/T)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and 2002 Infiniti QX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PNP switch 2-pin harness connector. See Fig 1 . Check continuity of Black wire between engine ground and PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  3 .
  2. Check following:
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors B61 and B200. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
    • Check for open or short in circuits between ground and PNP switch.
If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat appropriate DTC confirmation test.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure . Check continuity of Blue/Black wire (changes to Blue at ECM) between PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 44. See Figure . Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  5 .
  4. Check following:
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors F22 and M33. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors B52 and M72.
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors B61 and B200.
    • Check for open or short in circuits between ECM and PNP switch.
If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat appropriate DTC confirmation test.
  5. Shift transmission into Neutral. Check continuity between PNP switch terminals No. 1 and 2. Continuity should exist. With transmission in any other gear, continuity should not exist. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace PNP switch. After repair, repeat appropriate DTC confirmation test.
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
